Billy McFarland of Fyre Pageant in solitary confinement after the podcast began
The mastermind of the Fyre Festival, Billy McFarland, was put in solitary confinement on Friday, the New York Times reported. McFarland lawyers tell The Times that they believe the solitary confinement is the result of the recent launch of his new podcast, Dumpster Fyre, earlier this week. McFarland appeared on the first episode and spoke on the prison phone.
“We believe the investigation was due to his participation in the podcast and the photos that were captured and used in the trailer, all of which were properly captured,” McFarland’s attorney Jason Russo told The Times. “We don’t think he broke any rules or regulations, and there can’t possibly be anything else. He was an exemplary prisoner there. “
McFarland is currently serving a six-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to two wire fraud cases in 2018. On the first episode of “Dumpster Fyre,” he stated that any proceeds from the show would be used for the $ 26 million he owed to investors he cheated in the Fyre Festival debacle. According to his attorney, he is currently due to be released on August 30, 2023.
