Drag Race Recap: Which ‘Lucky’ Queens will make it to the Season 13 finals?

This has already felt like the longest season in RuPaul’s drag race history, and Friday’s episode didn’t change that.

After Olivia Lux was eliminated, the four remaining queens – Gottmik, Kandy Muse, Rosé and Symone – gathered in the workroom to prepare for their final challenge, and immediately theorized about the surprises Ru had up their sleeve.

“It could be one of us going home, it could be two of us going home, it could be neither of us going home – we don’t know!” Symone said although I think we all knew it was going to be option # 3. Seriously, did anyone think that only three queens would make it to the finals?

For their final challenge, the queens were hired to write, record and perform their own verse to Mama Ru’s “Lucky” choreographed by Jamal Sims. The end result was a fun, colorful music video in which all four girls really were in their best light. Gottmik provided a spoken verse that stayed inspirational without getting too cheesy. Kandy looked back at her “from the hood to Hollywood” trip. Symone served more demeanor than anyone, and Rosé … can rap? Was that what that was? Honestly, everyone killed this in their own way, but if I had to pick a winner it would be another Symone / Rosé breakup.

Happiness be a lady tonight! 😍

The queens also appeared as guests in RuPaul and Michelle Visage’s new Inside Drag Race segment. (Don’t worry, there were still a lot of tic-tacs to walk around.) Rosé insisted that Jan would support her success on the show rather than make it jealous. Kandy defended himself against haters who felt they didn’t deserve them. When Gottmik made it into the top 4, he admitted that her drag name may or may not have a pornstar connection, and Symone looked at her own journey Self-acceptance back.

There was also emotional kiki as the queens prepared to take the main stage one final time. Gottmik said this whole experience taught her not to feel pressured as a representative of the trans-male community. “I’ve learned that the best way to represent your community is to be you,” she said. “The pressure is just unnecessary.”

That reveal resonated with Symone, who stated, “I had to unpack a lot of things about myself. I was a very lonely and very shy boy. I didn’t make love Coming to this contest and blooming into the Symone that everyone sees … I’m finally seeing it. And let me tell you when you finally get to the other side it’s a lovely feeling. Nobody can take that away from me. I love myself and I can say that. I can say that now. “(BRB sobs.)

Now to the runway: “Drag Excellence!” Mik gott things started in a figure-hugging, Cruella de Vil-approved spotted dress; Kandy followed with a “fun, sexy, flirtatious” little act; Rosé paid tribute to her Scottish heritage in a tartan dress. and Symone finished the show in a stunning purple giant-sleeved gown that read “royalty!” screamed. in surround sound. The judges, of course, had nothing negative to say about the queens’ appearance. (I thought Symone’s was great, Rosé’s was good, Gottmik’s was fun, and Kandy’s was a choice.)

Then came the last gag of the evening: Not only did all four queens have to be lip-synchronized for their lives, but they also had to do it individually. So began a montage of four different performances to Whitney Houston’s “I Learned From The Best” (HQ2 Radio Remix) – a song that I heard absolutely 100 percent. What is there to criticize, like the appearances of the girls in the music video? They all went the dramatic route, they were all fully committed, and I wasn’t the least bit surprised when Ru announced that they would all stay for the finale.
