Hazard! Bagger Up Jack White and Black Keys Beef

Danger from time to time! offers questions about contemporary musicians. In an attempt to get players to guess “the black keys” in the “21st Century Bands” category, Alex Trebek hinted at a very specific moment in the band’s history. “Jack White had a conflict with Dan Auerbach of that band, whose name strangely mirrors that of the White Stripes,” he asked. Yes – the team behind today’s episode of Jeopardy! made the decision to re-emerge the white and black key feud that hasn’t otherwise received much press in the past five years. (The clue fails to notice that White also exchanged words with Patrick Carney.)

The two sides have made public efforts to crush the beef in recent years when white label Third Man Records publicly congratulated the Black Keys on releasing “Let’s Rock” last year. “I’ve got to know Jack a little over the past six months,” Carney said in an interview last year. “This is a big month for rock and roll in Nashville with the Raconteurs record and ours.”

In 2018 a danger! The candidate suspected Eminem when it came to Jack White. (Jack’s picture was shown.) The White Stripes’ greatest hits will be released on December 4th.
