How does Batman favourite Kevin Conroy really feel about Robert Pattinson stealing his iconic line?
Many Batman fans were initially skeptical when they found out that Robert Pattinson would play the Dark Knight in Matt Reeves’ new film. The Batman. Then the trailer for the movie fell and as soon as the fans heard Battinson announce “I am revenge” to a dejected thug, they knew his casting was the right call. As it is, that line was a throwback for Batman: The Animated Series, in which actor Kevin Conroy first uttered these words as the Dark Knight. During an interview with The Geek House Show, Conroy gave his opinion on the new Batman.
“I don’t own these lines, you know what I mean? I have to put my ego aside and accept the fact that there are a lot of actors out there who can play Batman as well as I do. I think it was a little brilliant from Warner Bros.” not giving the role to a person. I thought it was crazy at first because they usually give an actor a role and that actor becomes the face of the franchise. So when Michael Keaton started and I thought well, he will be Batman. Then you have George Clooney, Val Kilmer, all these different actors, Ben Affleck, who all did it a little differently. They all had different strengths in playing the part. ”
While some actors will be forever associated with certain parts, from Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones to Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne, other franchises have a habit of replacing the leading cast in order to keep the series going for decades.
Batman is one of the most played roles in cinema history, and as Conroy points out, he was played by actors who all brought their own unique strengths to the role. Kevin Conroy He acknowledged that this interchangeable aspect of the characters can lead to fascinating results that, hopefully, he can relate to Robert Pattinson also.
“It’s like for me, Mark Hamill is the Joker, he’s the Joker. He’s the embodiment of the Joker, he’s brilliant. And then I saw Heath Ledger. And I thought, oh my god, that’s a very different one Kind of madness. It’s no better. ” than Mark, but it’s brilliant, it’s a different kind of madness. So different actors bring different things to them. So I love that Robin Pattinson does that. ”
Directed by Matt Reeves and written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, The Batman play Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne / Batman, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle / Catwoman, Colin Farrel as Oswald Cobblepot / The Penguin, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton / The Riddler, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone and Peter Sarsgaard as District Attorney Gil Colson.
