Kristin Smart’s Disappearance 1996: Arrests related to missing college students

More than two decades after the college student Kristin Smart has disappeared, there was a long-awaited lull in the case.

Authorities arrested Paul Flores, Kristin’s former classmate at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo on Tuesday April 13th. Booking documents from E! News also confirms that Paul’s father, Ruben Flores, was also arrested and is on a $ 250,000 bond.

Rubens lawyer, Harold Mesick, had no comment when he was reached by E! News. Lawyer Robert Sanger confirmed to E! News that he is representing Paul but refused to comment, citing the pending nature of the case.

In May 1996, then 19-year-old Kristin disappeared after walking home from an off-campus party. According to NBC News, a friend of Kristin’s friends told authorities they saw her and Paul return to campus the night she went missing. Although no body was found, she was pronounced dead in 2002.
