Millie Bobby Brown reunites with Avengers: Endgame workforce for The Electrical State
Joe and Anthony Russo are teaming up with Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown on the upcoming Universal Pictures film adaptation of the graphic novel The electrical condition. With Brown in the lead role, the Russians will co-direct and produce under their AGBO banner. Given the names, Universal reportedly grabbed the rights to the project very quickly once it hit the market.
“We are very excited about this deal with Universal, which has committed to a theatrical release of Electric State,” the Russians said in a statement about the Millie Bobby Brown Movie. “This is incredible news for us as filmmakers and for audiences around the world who want the opportunity to see movies back in theaters. It is also a positive sign that the cinema market is returning with the availability of vaccines. “
AGBO has been working on an adaptation of The Electric State for years. In 2017, an earlier version of the concept with Andy Muschietti on board is to be planned to direct and produce together with his sister Barbara Muschietti. With the Muschiettis since taking over The Flash for Warner Bros., the door has been opened for the Russians to enter as directors. Although Andy is no longer directing, the Muschiettis will continue to act as producers. AGBO’s Mike Larocca will also be producing. Russell Ackerman and John Schoenfelder are executive producers.
AGBO’s Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who worked with the Russians on Captain America: Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, will write the script. Although the writers looked forward to working with the Muschiettis, they are thrilled to be working with the Russians again after having so much success together in the past.
“We would have got Joe and Anthony directing everything we write and we were thrilled that the timing was worked out for them as directors,” said McFeely. “The beauty of it is that Electric State’s themes align with their interests in technology and feel like the perfect property for them.”
There is currently no word on when the project will be released, although the film is scheduled to be accelerated. It can still take some time to get everyone on the same page with the directors and the main actor who are already working with busy deadlines. The Russians will begin directing the adaptation of The Gray Man in Long Beach next month, and it’s unclear how long filming will take. Meanwhile, Brown is working on the upcoming fourth season of Stranger Things.
The Electric State was created by Simon Stålenhag in 2018 and crowdfunded by Kickstarter. The story introduces an apocalyptic, robot-rich future inspired by the American West. It follows a young girl who meets a robot sent to her by her missing brother, and together the two embark on a journey to find and rescue him.
The Electric State is reported to go into production between late 2021 and early 2022. This message was first reported by Deadline.
