Resident Evil Film Reboot is formally packaged with a last set picture

The Resident Evil restart has officially finished filming and Sony Pictures shared a final set photo to commemorate the occasion. The studio did it relatively quickly when filming began in early November. That’s not a bad timeframe for a franchise blockbuster, even under ideal circumstances. But this year the industry has presented the opposite of ideal circumstances. Even so, this film is in the can ahead of its expected 2021 release.

The image was revealed by Sony through its official social media channels. The studio shared the final set photo with a clapboard and an old TV with static electricity on the screen. The picture itself doesn’t show a ton, but it is in line with the 90s setting previously confirmed. Applied Arts FX Studio also recently shared art that reveals a game-accurate zombie design as packaged filming. The picture was shared with the following caption.

“This is a wrap in Raccoon City. Directed by Johannes Roberts.”

As indicated in the caption, Johannes Roberts (47 meters down) is sitting in the director’s chair when it restarts. Aside from the ’90s, particularly in 1998, it was also announced that the film would be an origin story set in Raccoon City. Set photos have confirmed well-known locations from the games, such as the Spencer Mansion. The ensemble consists of Kaya Scodelario (Crawl) as Claire Redfield, Robbie Amell (The Babysitter) as Chris Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy and Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin. Donal Logue (Gotham) is also on board as Chief Irons.

This marks the first time the big screen series has restarted since the original Resident Evil film hit theaters in 2002. That version of the franchise lasted 15 years, with the definitive entry Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, which hit theaters in 2017, is the most successful video game franchise in history and has more than $ 1.2 billion at the global box office earned. While Milla Jovovich is not expected to return, the actress recently said she would be open to repeating her role in the future should the opportunity arise.

Resident Evil began life as a video game released by Capcom in 1996. The zombie survival game proved to be a huge hit, spawning a number of sequels and spin-offs that are going strong to this day. More than 105 million copies of the various games have been sold. In addition to the movie, Netflix is currently working on a live-action series based on the video games. It doesn’t seem to be associated with the movie at this point. Netflix also has an animated series called Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness on the Way. Resident Evil is currently expected to restart on September 9, 2021. Be sure to check out the set photo using Sony Pictures’ Twitter account.
