Between the iconic location (New York’s famous Strand Bookstore), the perfect time (New Year’s Eve at midnight), and the ridiculously romantic setting (literal fireworks!), The final scene of Dash & Lily’s first season finale is being as perfect as possible. Is it any wonder executive producer Joe Tracz says it’s his favorite side-to-screen moment on the Netflix series?

“First of all, I think anyone who loves books has the dream of being locked up in a bookstore overnight,” Tracz told TVLine. “And to have that as an end when the two kiss at midnight on New Year’s Eve was what we always wanted. These characters were spending so much of the season apart that we wanted to make this moment really cute and special. We shot this at The Strand overnight, so we shot it at three in the morning. Even if everyone was brain-fried, the chemistry was still there. I am really proud of this scene. “

While Netflix hasn’t officially renewed Dash & Lily, there’s certainly plenty to tell from Rachel Cohn’s and David Levithan’s book series – and Tracz is as ready to shoot a second season as he’s ready for Pixar to produce Collation for Real.

“I would like to go back and do the second and third books,” he says. “The third book was actually written on the set. David and Rachel would visit the set and work on their chapters for the third book. I love these characters so much and the city they live in. Knowing that there is more to tell, these are the stories I would like to tell. “

Meanwhile, Austin Abrams (aka Dash) plays by ear and tells TVLine that he will only read the other Dash & Lily books when he knows the show will be renewed. “I’m waiting to see what will happen before I fully immerse myself,” he says. “I haven’t fully got into it yet because I don’t know what’s going to happen.” (Something tells us Abrams can order a copy of this second book.)
